7 Simple Strategies To Calm The Holiday Chaos #15

7 Simple Strategies To Calm The Holiday Chaos #15

It’s time to enjoy this cycle of nature and sacred time of rebirth, one of the four life-giving seasons on our blessed Earth.

What a fabulous morning! It is our first snow here in New Hampshire. The snow brings a level of stillness, quiet, and peace to the day. I hear the chickadees chirping as I sit here on my couch and drink one of my morning favorites, chai green tea. At this moment life feels especially wonderful.

I thought I would share some holiday tips to calm the feeling of rush and stress many of us feel during this season.

With all that said, first I’ll share something I’ll never do again…After a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner with my daughter, I stopped at a store to beat the Black Friday madness.

I was wrong.

I proceeded in with caution as warned by the yellow caution tape that lined the checkout aisles and entry.

As I was picking up a few items, I heard hollering and people fighting toward the technology department then witnessed the store police running up the main aisle to break up the commotion.

That was it. I checked out my few items and was off.

I thought to myself this is the exact opposite of how the season supposed to be celebrated.

I’ll never shop on post-Thanksgiving or Black Friday again.

I make it a daily practice to live with ease, beauty, and balance.  Plain and simple the madness doesn’t meet my standard, the way I want to live. It was time for me to check-in with myself and time to level-up to avoid the holiday chaos.

If you want to cut out the stress this holiday season, consider some of these helpful holiday tips.

  1. Keep It Simple. Really. The key is to do less and enjoy more this season.
  1. Cut Out The Extras. We clutter our lives with stuff, too much of it. Do what is most important to you and your family.
  1. Easy Holiday Decor. Decorate your front door, your tree, and a focal point (most likely your table).
  1. Plan Ahead. Plan by making a list of essential things you need to do. Do this each week until the big day.  This will help time from ticking away and help ease your stress. Preparing ahead can save you money as well by eliminating last-minute panic buying.
  1. Wrap As You Buy. I’ll admit, I’ve learned the hard way. I’ve had some late nights wrapping gifts for four kids the night before Christmas.
  1. Tag Your Gifts. Sticky notes can help you keep track of what’s under the wrapping.
  1. Ask For Help. Ask holiday guests to bring a favorite dish or dessert. Most people love flaunting their favorite holiday recipes. Or, Invite guests to help you prepare the holiday meal.

Remember, there is no hurry. The season is not about chaos. It’s the season of peace.  Pace yourself. Enjoy family and friends. Show your light and love to them.

12 Tips To Make Your Staycation Fun and Fabulous #4

12 Tips To Make Your Staycation Fun and Fabulous #4

Mokokoma Mokhonoana said, “It is rest, not a vacation, that is a biological need.”

I have to say, sometimes the simplest things are the best.

For me, sometimes the break from the daily routine is all I need to feel that sense of rest and renewal. This week is a good time for a mini staycation.

Don’t get me wrong I love traveling, taking a vacation to someplace I have never been, or revisiting a favorite destination, but there is something carefree about not having to pack or have a vacation must-do and must-see list on the agenda.

Really, it is rest that my body needs.

All batteries need to charge. I know if my car battery is running low, it dies.

So, I opted in for a staycation to recharge my battery, do things around my house that would elevate the quality of my life, relax and play, relax and play a little more than usual.

What makes a staycation great?

First, setting clear intentions about how you want to feel at the end of your time at home.

Then, choosing to do only those things that help you achieve that feeling.

Tips that will make your staycation fun and more fabulous:
1. Let people know your on a vacation.

2. Hire someone to clean your house before your staycation.

3.  Change up your normal routine. Changing up the tech routine-perhaps unplugging.  Consider unplugging from any calls, answering emails, or being in touch with what is typical for you. Otherwise your time at home may not give you your desired results.

4.  Tackle a small house project can be rewarding especially if it seems hard to fit into your standard routine.

5.  Say good-bye to the news.

6.  Be out in nature everyday.

7.  Get your body moving. I’m not talking about burning yourself out by running a marathon. Enjoy the day by taking a walk, hike, or go for a swim.

8.  Visiting a local attraction that you may have wanted to do, but haven’t.

9.  Lunch date with a friend.

10.  Dressing to the nines, eating out, and enjoying a glass of wine or non- alcoholic spritzer with a friend.

11.  Buy some food and drinks that are not part of your ordinary weekly routine.  A favorite of mine is fresh seasonal fruit with champagne on ice to celebrate.

12.  Relax, relax. Personally there is nothing better than an afternoon in a hammock with a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice over ice.

Whether you choose a staycation or vacation, state of mind is what matters in the end. Be clear on your intentions. Don’t get caught up in the should dos. Create something that works for you and the time you have to recharge.

Cheers to you all…rest a little and play a little. It does wonders.
