It’s inevitable, there will be extra treats around over the holidays; it’s the most festive time of year. It is perfectly okay to have a little fun and enjoy some special things to please your palette.
Here are 3 strategies you can use to curb the urge to pile your plate or prevent you from visiting the dessert table multiple times.
1. Ask yourself how you want to feel after the gathering. Know that perhaps eating a ton of sweets or heavy food that will not agree with you is probably not the best choice. Go into the gathering with an understanding of how you want to feel during and after the party or event.
2. Choose to let the focus be the people at the gathering. This makes a huge difference. Sure, enjoy some of the treats, but don’t let it be a focal point. Try to remove yourself from the food. That might be suggesting to talk to someone in an area away from the nibbles, sitting in a cozy spot or chatting by a window. Focus on the person you are talking to; it is an opportunity to meet someone new or enjoy some good company.
3. Drink a warm drink. Often people eat for comfort. Drinking a cup of hot tea, decaf, or coffee can be the soothing thing you need to help you keep away from the spread of food. Enjoy it. It requires slow sipping. That’ll give everyone else plenty of time to try all the nibblies. 🙂
